What's New with HP TCP/IP Services

(September 2008) A security vulnerability has been reported, affecting all recent versions of the HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product. Only systems where the Finger service is enabled are at risk. HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS version 5.6 now available

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, the HP industry-standard implementation of TCP/IP networking protocols on the OpenVMS platform, announces the release of version 5.6, supporting both AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers. HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 is designed to run on OpenVMS version 8.2 or higher.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 is fully integrated with the OpenVMS operating system installation. It provides interoperability and resource-sharing among systems running OpenVMS, UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and other operating systems that support TCP/IP.

In addition to the support of OpenVMS on Integrity servers, HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 enhanced features provide support for heterogeneous environments, streamlined operations, simplified installation, greater flexibility, and increased security.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 features

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 offers new and improved features:
  • NFS Server Support on Integrity servers
  • Client and Server SSH file format preservation
  • TCPIP$CONFIG.COM enhancements for failSAFE IP
  • Secure Shell (SSH) upgrades with Kerberos support
  • DNS/BIND 9 Resolver and v9.3 Server upgrades
  • DNSSEC improvements
  • NTP Security Update (SSL), NTP AutoKey
  • SMTP multi-domain zone for mail improvements
  • TELNET Server Device Limit
  • IPv6 support for LPD and TELNETSYM
  • FTP performance improvement boost for VMS Plus
  • Improved management utilities (ifconfig and more)

Based on Berkeley Software Distribution Version, the TCP/IP kernel used for HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 provides proven reliability and functionality, rapid introduction of new TCP and IP features, performance enhancements, and improved memory management.
