Conversational Bootstrap? (take III)

The Question is:

 
How do I boot a microvax II in conversational mode so that I can disable a
mount of a disk drive that is nolonger available?  It keeps asking me to put
the drive online.

  The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage acquiring access to and reading
  the OpenVMS system managment documentation, or acquiring and reading
  the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) documentation.  Both
  of these available resources will explain how you can perform a
  conversational bootstrap.
