Cluster Interconnect Futures?

» close window

The Question is:

Cluster interconnect futurs

With GigaEthernet coming around the corner where
does this leave Memory Channel as a Cluster interconnect ? Being a
proprietary technology we don't feel that Compaq will persue MC investments.
I taught I'd read a news flash about a "MC II" plan but can't find it on the
net. I guess the most anoying sp
ec about MC is its distance limitation, but the again I also
think I read something about FiberChannel soon
being supported as a cluster interconnet!

Your insight appreciated. Please provide references on the Web if they're
out there.

The Answer is :

Memory Channel II (MC2) support is available in OpenVMS V7.2-1.

Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, and Fibre Channel are technologies that may
be supported as cluster interconnects in future OpenVMS releases
after V7.2 -- work on supporting switched interconnects such as these
as cluster interconnects is presently underway.

Specific Fibre Channel configurations are supported in OpenVMS V7.2-1,
with additional configurations and support expected.
