The Question is:
We need to set up a print que using tcp/ip
to print to a Xerox DC 230 printer. We have
HP's set up but the same setup does not work
for the DC 230.
Do we just need to change the init/q command?
Thank you
Susan
The Answer is :
Only those things that have changed between the HP and Xerox printer
need change in the OpenVMS host configuration.
The usual mechanism for IP printing is TCP/IP Services via Telnet or
LPR/LPD, and there is a discussion of configuring Telnet and LPR/LPD
queues in the TCP/IP Services documentation, as well as other discussions
here around trying to determine the configuration of a particular IP
printer. (Often, simply contacting the printer vendor and asking for
the port configuration information is the easiest approach.)
Xerox reportedly has documentation available for accessing at least
certain of the Xerox printers from OpenVMS; this documentation was
reportedly available on the Xerox website.
Please! Statements such as "does not work" are meaningless -- these
statements do not provide sufficient information to determine what
happened nor even what did not work. The OpenVMS Wizard requires
the exact error messages and the particular commands used, as well as
(in this case) the associated TCP/IP version.
Details and tips and techniques that can be useful when using TCP/IP
Services printing capabilities are referenced in topic (1020).
Please upgrade to TCP/IP Services V4.2 or V5.1 or more current, and
with the current ECO applied.
