The Question is:
Is there any change in the behaviour of sys$enq() or sys$enqw() between
version 7.1-2 and 7.2-1 of the VMS operating system?
There are no Release notes for VMS 7.2-1 available on the OpenVMS web pages.

The OpenVMS Alpha V7.2-1 New Features and Release Notes Manual
is available at the documentation website.
The OpenVMS Wizard is not aware of any particularly significant
changes to the user API for the distributed lock manager for V7.2
or V7.2-1, though there were certainly changes made to the locking
data structures and the data structure storage and related system
parameters that were included in OpenVMS V7.2.
Since you have not mentioned the problem, no specific answer is
