DECnet vs TCP/IP?

» close window

The Question is:

Mr. Wizard,

Me: Hobbyist

My MicroVAX II has DECnet installed. I'd like to be able to do file transfers
 to/from a Windows98 PC.

Windows networking speaks TCP/IP. I presume that DECnet speaks TCP/IP. If
this is so, is it possible to get them to talk to each other without having to
install Pathworks, Samba, or some other software?

Thanks.

The Answer is :

DECnet is quite different than TCP/IP.

You would need a DECnet client for the remote system, if you wish
to use DECnet file transfer protocols.
