Controlling MAIL and MAIL$*.MAI files?

» close window

The Question is:

We have loads of files called mail$*.mai where they are overflow more than 2
blocks. Can we increase the 2 block parameter ?

The Answer is :

These are individual mail messages, and the MAIL utility creates these
for messages larger than about three blocks. Shorter mail messages are
stored in MAIL.MAI. There is no particular way to alter the threshold
setting for creation of these external files, short of patching or
  rebuilding the MAIL utility.

You can use the SET MAIL_DIRECTORY command available within the OpenVMS
MAIL utility to relocate these files into a specified subdirectory.
