The Question is:
A client currently prints to DEC LP37 line printers. Banner pages, Form Feeds
and Trailers are supported.
When configuring an lpr printer in Open VMS, is there a way to enable banner
pages, form feeds and trailers?
Thanks for your help.
The Answer is :
The host controlling the printer, or the network printer itself,
issues these banners. (This would be the particular host or
device directly controlling the printer, and voth LPR/LPD and
telnet-based printing assume the remote server -- software that
is running on a remote host or directly within a networ-capable
printer or JetDirect printer NIC -- provides this capability.
If you wish to insert information into the data stream, please
see the OpenVMS device control library mechanism.
You could potentially configure a reverse telnet connection to
the printer (other topics and the OpenVMS FAQ discuss reverse
telnet), and configure an OpenVMS printer queue targeting the
serial device. (This is arguably the closest available solution
for your request.)
